| 8-member Billiards-Snooker team named for nationals | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 6: Minus state billiards champion, Sohail Khalid, the Jammu and Kashmir Billiards and Snooker Association (JKBSA) has announced an eight-member team for the 74th Senior and 32nd Junior Billiards and Snooker Championship beginning at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh tomorrow. After Sohail expressed his inability to take part in the nationals, the Association decided not to send the senior billiards team this time. “Barring Sohail there was hardly any good stuff in the senior billiards, so it was a unanimous decision on part of the Association not to send the senior billiards team this time,” general secretary of the J&K Billiards and Snooker Association Sheetal Gandotra told Sports & Allied News. Last year’s quarterfinalist in junior snooker, Yunus Kuchey, who has become senior this time, too is not in the team for two reasons. Firstly, he has not done well at the state level and had lost in the semifinals to Vishal Abrol. Secondly, he is preparing for his examinations. “Since Yunus is the prospective cueist, he was approached by the Association but he too was not available for the competition due to examinations,” Sheetal added. The teams: Senior Snooker: Vishal Abrol, Kamal Rohmetra, Sumesh Turki and Kuldeep Sharma. Junior Snooker: Muddassar Ashiq and Mian Bashir. Junior Billiards: Abhishek Pathania and Vidit Gavari. |
