| DFP observes World AIDS DAY | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 6 In connection with the observance of World AIDS DAY, a symposium on “Role of Youth in creating AIDS Awareness” was organized by the Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India for the students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Channi Himat, Jammu. In all 500 students and teachers of the school participated actively in the programme. Kumari Ruksana, Kumari Shabanam and Aqib were adjudged best three speakers in order of merit in the symposium and were awarded with prizes in shape of utility gifts along with other participants. Dr. Kiulwant Sethi an expert from Chief Medical Office, Jammu deliberated on the subject focusing attention off the youth on global and national scenario toward dreaded disease AIDS & advocated strongly for creation of awareness in minimizing the spread of HIV. Speaking on the occasion V.K.Magotra, Incharge Directorate of Field Publicity, J&K Region underlines the importance of IEC activities through which estimated AIDS prevalence cases in India have been slashed to 2.5 million. It was revealed that there are about 5 crore students in the age-group of 15-18 in Secondary Schools in the country educating them regarding HIV/AIDS can play a vital role. “Until a cure is found of AIDS, preventive education is only means to keep it off” many speakers explained. The theme of day ‘Take the lead, stop AIDS, keep the promise was also highlighted on the occasion. Smt. Promilla Rajput Principal (Incharge) presided over the function and urged upon the organizers to arrange more such educative interactive programmes for the benefit of youth/students. A photo exhibition depicting aspects of combating AIDS was organized on the occasion. A series of publicity programmes which includes film shows, photo exhibitions, seminars, symposia etc. are being organized all over the State by Directorate of Field Publicity. |
