| Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre adopts village ‘Shumali’ | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 6 Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre, Department of Sociology, University of Jammu, adopted village ‘Shumali’ near Old Satwari, Jammu, today, on the occasion of 51st Death anniversary of Dr. B.R Ambedkar. The programme was held in village ‘Shumali’ where majority of the population is of Mahasha Community - a Scheduled Caste of the State of J & K. The programme started with paying of floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Ambedkar followed by observing two minutes silence in his memory. Dr. Abha Chauhan, Director Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre, gave the welcome address in which she highlighted the activities of the Centre and the role of Dr. Ambedkar in the upliftment of the under privileged and backward sections of the society. Dr. Chauhan assured the residents of the area that the Centre will work wholeheartedly for the total development of the village. Dr. Arti Bakshi, Reader in the Psychology Department, University of Jammu, in her address focussed on the psychological perspective of social and personal proble of the people of the village. . Shveta Sharma, Lecturer, Women Studies Centre, congratulated the Centre on such an activity of the Centre and assured that wherever the help of Women Studies Centre is required her Centre will come forward. The local residents of the area, Amarnath, Smt. Satya, Ramesh Kumar, Surjit Singh highlighted the various proble from which the people of the area are suffering. They welcomed the initiative of the Centre and assured their full cooperation to the activities of the Centre. The Centre will focuss on providing adult education to the older members of the area, education to the school drop-outs, awareness regarding hygiene and sanitation, health, income generation activities and other such activities related to the development of the area. Ranjit Sharma, Research Assistant presented the formal Vote of thanks and appreciated the active participation of the local residents in making the programme a big success. |
