| Azad asks youth to be stakeholders in peace, development | | Says education key sector of prosperity | | Early Times Reporter Bhadarwah | Dec 6 Stating that peace is imperative for development, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad Thursday called upon the people to be stakeholders in peace and development process and help steer the state towards prosperity. "Youth have a pivotal role in this stupendous task", he added. Addressing annual day function of Government Degree College Bhadarwah, Chief Minister highlighted the importance of conducive atmosphere for development and said that tranquil and palatable situation was a must for progress. "Education is the key sector in the process of development, as such, requires focus of attention at all levels". While universalization of primary and secondary education was receiving priority attention of the government and higher and technical education being extended across the state through a network of university campuses, degree colleges and technical institutions, he maintained. He said "under education policy, job-oriented and professional courses have been introduced to ensure ample employment opportunities to educated youth in the job market". Chief Minister referring to the losses inflicted upon the economy during the period of militancy, said "fast track construction of vital infrastructure, resulting in completion of scores of hospitals, college complexes, roads, bridges, PHE schemes, school buildings, industrial training institutes, etc. has been made hallmark of development process in the state". Mr. Azad highlighting the importance of moral education asked the teachers to devote highest attention towards this aspect while following academic curricula. He congratulated the college management, staff and students on the annual day and extended his best wishes for flourishing of the institution. Chief Minister said that extra-curricular activities along with cultural programmes depicting rich heritage and values of Jammu and Kashmir should also form a part of the activities in the educational institutions along with sports. "This gives fillip to the personality development of students, makes them aware of their heritage and inculcates spirit of discipline, brotherhood and tolerance". He suggested exchange of sports and cultural teams between various colleges to share the experience and get acquainted with different cultural ethos of the state. He said the sub-office of Cultural Academy set up at Bhadarwah would give boost to local art, culture and languages. Referring to the establishment of university campus at Bhadarwah, he said that the construction of infrastructure for the university was coming up on fast track and would be completed by January next. Underlining the importance of forests and plants for maintenance of eco-system and economic upliftment, he said "Bhadarwah like other areas of the state has great potential for raising plants and orchards. I wish each student to plant at least five plants at the available land and contribute in protection and conservation of environment". Describing road connectivity lifeline of economy, Chief Minister said "this sector received top priority and connectivity of far-flung, remote and hilly areas is being attended as a thrust area". He referred to Gandoh-Jai-Bhadarwah road, Kahra-Bhadarwah road and Doda-Bhadarwah road saying that these projects on completion would upgrade road connectivity in the area. He said five bridges were also being constructed on Neeru nallah in the area to ensure improved communication links. Chief Minister said that the state has remained choicest tourist destination since times immemorial for its scenic beauty but received jolt in the past. "The sector is being revived by introducing measures including establishment of tourism development authorities and circuits, and creating tourist infrastructure in the tourism potential areas adding that tourist complex at Dandi, tourist resort at Gatha and Tourist Reception Centre at Domail were being constructed in Bhadarwah". Chief Minister also distributed papers of ownership rights among the farmers under Roshni scheme. Some 21 lakh kanals of state land are being given to farmers free of cost in the state under this scheme. On the occasion, Chief Minister also handed over a cheque for Rs. 20 lakh to Rector Bhadarwah Campus of Jammu University for promotion of IT education under RSVY. Mr. Azad also distributed prizes among the students who have excelled in academic and extra-curricular activities. Principal of the college Dr. Mohammad Iqbal presented the annual report of the institution. A cultural programme was presented by the students on the occasion which was appreciated by the audience. Prominent among those present on the occasion were MLA Mr. Abdul Majid Wani, Secretary to Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner Doda Mr. Sourab Bhagat, Director Colleges Dr. N. D. Wani, President Municipal Committee Bhadarwah Mr. Javed Azad, Rector Bhadarwah University campus Prof. I. A. Hamal, teachers, staff and students of the college, prominent citizens and a large number of people of the area. |
