| Student face ire of bus conductors | | 'Super fast buses charge exorbitant fares’, allege students | | Ajay Meenia Jammu | Dec 6 The students of RS Pora area studying in Jammu face the ire of the bus conductors leading to clashes sometimes on charges of bus fares. Fed up with the daily harassment at the hands of the bus conductors, especially of the Super Fast buses, the students traveling regularly on these buses have expressed their resentment and are demanding separate government bus service for the students. Though the government has granted some concession to the student community in both the government and private vehicles but regrettably the super fast buses plying on RS Pura and other routes do not comply with these orders and instead charge exorbitant fares from the students. When argued, the conductors misbehave with the students and drop them en route. This continuing trend has forced the students community to lodge protests on regular basis. The border towns like Samba, Kathua, Akhnoor, Bishnah, R.S.Pura and Arnia are the areas where from maximum students come to Jammu for studying in various educational institutions and have to face the ire of the conductors. Talking to Early Times, Nishant Jojra, a law students of Jammu University said charging full fare from the student community is a cruel joke with the community as the government has already granted 50 per cent concession to them in all the vehicles. Non- payment of full fare always leads to clashes between the students and the conductors and in some cases the students are being dropped midway causing great inconvenience to them. Another student of a Private educational institution, Jyoti Choudhary who come from Samba, said that she was dropped by the conductor middle of the road and also used vulgar language with her. She said that if government is serious about the welfare of the student community it should get its fare concession order, granted to the students, implemented in letter and spirit otherwise it would be presumed that the government only believes in paper work and not what is happening at the ground level. Bus Union President Kuldeep Singh Randhawa when contacted assured that the Union would look into these complaints and see that the student are not harassed in future and if any one has complaint of overcharging he should approach the Bus Union. |
