| Omar reiterates autonomy demand, says it is only viable solution | | | Early Times Reporter Poonch | Dec 6:Claiming that the roadmap prepared by his party for resolution of Kashmir imbroglio was perfect in all respects, National Conference President Omar Abdullah today said that entire world is now considering the autonomy as the only viable solution for Kashmir issue. Addressing a series of public meetings at Poonch and Bandi Chechiyan, in support of party candidate Aijaz Jan, Omar said that National Conference was dubbed as traitor when it passed autonomy resolution in the state assembly. "However, now all those people, who were opposing the resolution tooth and nail, have realized that there can be no other possible solution to end decades old issue". "Kashmir issue is not only a bone of contention between India and Pakistan but it has proved to be one of the major causes for instability in South Asia", he said adding, "People who forced the youth to take guns and built castles in air by spreading bloodshed and violence are now talking about autonomy as the only roadmap for resolution of the issue". Terming it as a major achievement of the party, Omar said, "We stand by our commitment and we stand by our roadmap". "Autonomy will bring more than peace and tranquility", he said and added, "Autonomy, and freedom that comes with it, would go a long-way in soothing the hurt feelings of the people, who have been exposed to a great deal of hardship during the last 50 years". Lamenting the forces that were responsible for outright rejection of the resolution, passed by the state assembly, by their misinformation campaign, NC president said that the party will continue its efforts and go ahead in negotiating on autonomy. Omar said that when people were misguiding youth and bringing an alien gun culture to Kashmir, the party patron Dr Farooq Abdullah had cautioned that the death and destruction will lead the state no where. "He had urged the people to shun the path of violence and join mainstream so that the matter can be resolved peacefully". Asserting that the party can facilitate India-Pakistan peace talks, he said, "NC has always stood by its ideology and never tried to hoodwink the people of the state". He added that the party has always kept welfare of the common masses of the state in mind "even at the cost of political set backs". The public meeting was also addressed by Mian Altaf, Mushtaq Bukhari, Javed Rana, Choudhary Bashir Ahmed Naz, Choudhary Talib Hussian, M R Qureshi, K Rashpal Singh, T.S. Wazir, Devender Singh Rana Bashir Ahmed Wani and Ajaj Jan. |
