| Arrested LeT militant confirms presence of training camps in J&K | | Ultras planned to target police officers | | By Govind Chouhan

A LeT militant, who was arrested last night in Gool area, has, during interrogation made several revelations and confessed to have received arms training from the militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir. He is also reported to have identified some of the hideouts where the militant visit more frequently and their possible targets.
According to sources last night a joint team of police and army arrested a militant of LeT outfit from the area when he was hiding in a hideout and took him for further interrogation. Identified as Liquat Ali code muzzamil age about 16 yrs son of Gulabu resident of Lancha, the alleged militant of LeT out fit, was whisked away to some unknown destination for sustained interrogation. On his instance the police claimed to have recovered two UBGL grenades, some ammunition and eatables from a hideout, the sources said adding that during interrogation he told police that at the instance of his brother, who was also a hardcore militant, and was killed in an encounter about two months back, he joined militancy in July 2007. He also told the police that he along with some youth received training within the state. During sustained interrogation, he is reported to have told the police that a large number of youth joined the militant ranks during the past six months and also gave their names to his interrogators. He disclosed that about ten hardcore militants were active in the area and engaged in recruiting local youths in the militancy.
Sources said, the arrested militant disclosed that the terrorists were planning to target some police officers in the area. His brother code named Abu was a hardcore militant who recruited many local youths in the militancy and send some of them to Pakistan for special arms training. Sources said during the interrogation the arrested ultra disclosed that Pakistani commanders, who were operating from across directed the local commanders to recruit youths and provide them arms training in Jammu and Kashmir state and not in Pakistan due to fear of being eliminated while crossing the border.
Sources said during interrogation he also made disclosures of some vital hideouts of the militants that were being used as hub centers.
The arrested militant, the sources said, has told the police that about six newly recruited militant groups were active in Gool and other areas of the Ramban district and all of them got arms training with him during July- September and are capable to handle automatic and other sophisticated weapons. He also said that some local people are also active with the militants. He confessed that some Over Ground Workers were usually arranging cell phones for the ultras and even inform them about the activities of the security forces. Though the official sources are maintaining a silence about the outcome of the interrogation but according to knowledgeable sources the arrested militant has told his interrogators about the plan of the outfit which included targeting some police officers who were active in insurgency operations in the area. |
