| Jammu still to open up eyes to night life- seized in late 80s | | | Sanjay Khajuria Jammu | Dec 6 A pseudo metro yet in adolescence - Jammu, surprisingly lacks the nightlife which is so characteristic of the metropolitan life in other major cities of the country simply offers TV Soap Operas and idle sitting at home to the younger world who want to freak around at the threshold of their young age. The fact that in the city of more than 15 lakh souls, which comprises a substantial pack of youngsters is yet to wakeup to the nightlife and has baffled many minds if Jammu has the younger world but being without any nightlife. If you happen to talk either the boys and girls both groups simply stress that they should be given the a fair chance and opportunity to enjoy the nightlife as their counterparts do in other major cities. 'The fact that even after progressing by leaps and bounds in last few years, Jammu still failed to open its gates to nightlife like there is no discothèques, night clubs or night restaurants, has intrigued many, especially studenst who got admissions in the metro cities come here feel boredom. Some like Akhilesh Gupta an IT student pursuing his studies in Noida said though the Jammuites are trying to head for the nightlife through fast food malls and parties lingered upto late evenings but the real charm is still lacking. “Other activities what we can claim about nightlife here, it is just confied to religious occasion or the marriage parties that continues till late hours,' said Ajay Verma, who works in a MNC, and was used to nightlife during his tenure in Pune and Banglore and added, “Some times we want to go out in the evenings and enjoy the night breeze in some open air restaurant here our circle of friends. But some how that is not the case here be it the security reasons or still a fear pchycosis related to terror regime what the Jammuites have feltt during being sandwitched in Punjab and Kashmir terrorism.' Not only the young boys but many girls who have completed their studies outside the state and are back, with assured anonunity told that earlier they could not make it what nightlife means to youngsters, but back in Jammu, they have found evenings amazingly dull and boring. “After a days work and study, night is to freak out and party. I wonder what to do particularly after sun set and after 9.00pm you simply sit in sofa and watch TV unlike a traditional menu in a five star hotel, said Swati Gupta a medico. There were some stray efforts to have discotheques here, but they were not successful due to one or the other reason and now partying it is limited to Valentine day and New year bashes. Some say militancy is the culprit, some blame it upon the conservative approcah, with a feeling prevalant in Jammu that all young and older are bound to family insistence that they have to be back home by 8.00pm to 9.00 pm anyway. Interestingly, girls who dared to open up their lip said that they wanted to out go out in the evenings with their friends but it is sad that there are neither the places where they can go nor the parents show their willingness to let them go on their own. |
