CAPD contemplates to engage salesmen on contractual basis:Hakeem Yaseen

Srinagar, 22, Aug,:To further improve and streamline the distribution system of food grains in state, the government is contemplating to engage more salesmen on contractual basis.
This was stated by Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distributions Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen in a programme telecast by Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar last evening. He said due to retirement of most of the storekeepers over the past few years, it has become imperative to engage salesman on contractual pattern. He said the matter has been taken up with Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The Minister said that state government would launch a massive awareness programme to educate people about their rights under consumer acts. For the purpose, he said, Seminars would be organized in the educational institutions besides strengthening of State Consumer Forum and setting up of forums at the district and tehsil level. In addition, Consumer Clubs would be setup in the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu. He said NGO’s would also be involved in the process.
Replying to a question, Mr. Yaseen said that stock and supply position of essentials is stable in the state and presently stocking of food grains in the far of areas like Leh, Kargil, Gurez, Karnah, Machil, Keran,Pader, Dachan, Marwah and other hilly areas is under process. He said the process is being monitored by the respective Deputy Commissioners as well as authorities of the CAPD Department. He said so far 45,000/- quintals of various food grains have been dumped in the remote areas of Anantnag, Kupwara and Baramulla districts while the stocking of grains for Leh and Kargil district are being despatched smoothly. He said by now 48550 quintals of Atta, 33587 quintals of rice, 5068 quintals of sugar and 14.66 lac litters of K.Oil has been dispatched to these districts.
The Minister appealed to consumers not to lift low quality or rotton rice from PDS outlets adding that strict instructions have been issued to the authorities to return such rice to the Food Corporation of India. He said consumers are provided K.Oil according to the allocations being received from the central pool and measures are underway to increase the quota for the consumers. Presently K.Oil is provided to the consumers of valley from 2400 sale depots while as LPG’s is being provided from 31 sale outlets by various petroleum companies.
Replying to another question, the Minister said Fair Price Shops have been established in the state for smooth distribution of food grains which also provide job opportunities to several youth in the state. He said the government would soon accord sanction for setting up more such Fair Price Shops if need arises.
Agreeing that mutton and broilers are sold at prices higher than the prescribed rates in the Valley, the Minister assured that the government would formulate a clear cut policy for fixation of prices of mutton and broiler so that the consumers do not face any difficulty. He exhorted upon the people to cooperate with the governmental agencies to deal firmly with erring traders. He maintained that government would take serious action against the officials who are found indulging in corrupt practices or embezzlements.
The Minister assured that the government would not allow misuse of rations being provided to the people living below poverty line under BPL and AAY and the concern Deputy Commissioners have been asked to take earnest steps so that rations are provided to the deserving families.

Hakim Yaseen falicitate people on Mehraj-ul-Alam
Srinagar, 22, Aug, 2006(INFO) – Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and the Chairman People’s Democratic Front Hakim Mohammad Yasin has greeted people of J&K State on the auspicious day of Mehraj-ul-Aulam.
In a message, the Minister hoped that this day will bring peace, harmony and prosperity to the people of the state. This day every individual should also pledge to lead a life for the welfare of the human beings.
Meanwhile, the Minister has directed all the Deputy Commissioners and CAPD authorities to ensure sufficient quantity of food grains besides K. oil, Sugar and LPG to the consumers.
On the auspicious day of Mehraj-ul-Nabi (SAW), he also instructed the CAPD authorities to provide additional quota of Rice, Sugar, K.oil and Atta to the consumers of Hazratbal area during the Urs days.
