| New bill on immorality in offing | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 6: As the sword of sex scandals continues to hang over the heads of many alleged accused and suspects and the prosecution lacking the legal powers to crack many such cases, the Jammu and Kashmir is all set to come up with strong law against the immoral trafficking. Reliable sources told EARLY TIMES that a legislation to this effect is very likely to be presented in the forthcoming session of the state assembly. The necessity of such legislation arouse after government fount it difficult to tackle the cases of immoral trafficking coming to the fore after surfacing of infamous Srinagar sex scandal last year. The law against immoral trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir is quite outdated one and still holds prostitution legal. When the sex scandal in Kashmir had surfaced and many such more cases were unearthed the authorities had a major handicap in punishing the culprits with the amount of penalty they deserved as the proper legislation was not in place. Sources said that the government has worked on a new legislation and the outdated one dating back to 1930s may be repealed. The bill is likely to be presented in the forthcoming session of the state assembly. |
