| Seminar on “importance of water resources” held | | | Srinagar, August 22, –National Society for Protection of Water Resources, wetlands and forests organized a seminar on “importance of water resources” in collaboration with PHE department at Hussaini Park Gund Habbibhat here today. Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mrs. Dilshada Khan was chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Dilshada felicitated the society for organizing seminar for creating awareness among the general masses and school children regarding importance of preservation of water resources. She said that the valley, the paradise on earth is known for its fresh water and natural resources in the form of lakes, streams, river and springs but still it does not get adequate supply of safe drinking water because these water bodies are being misused and polluted. Mrs Dilshada said that Srinagar city is expanding day by day and the water supply schemes are under tremendous strain. “Government has launched various centrally and state funded schemes for the city under NURM. A 9 km tunnel is proposed to be constructed from Prang to Rangil to get 210 cusecs of safe raw water to generate about 75 MGD of potable drinking from treatment plants at Rangil, Alustang and Nishat besides, 10 MGD plant at Tangmarg with river Jehlum, she added. In essay writing competition, Mr Mir Hafiz, Miss Amreen and Mr Javid Hussain were adjudged first second and third respectively. Mr Javid Hussain, Ms. Irm Khan and Mr. Adil Hussain declared first, second and third respectively in painting competition. Besides, in debate competition, Ms Jameela Ali, Ms Shafia and Mr. Faheen stood first, second and third respectively. As many as, 60 students from various schools of the area participated in essay writing, debate and painting competition and expressed their views about the topic. Earlier, the school children marched from one village to another holding placards depicting slogans regarding the topic. The Chief Guest distributed certificate and trophies among the winners. The students also presented colourful cultural programme on the occasion. Chief Engineer PHE, Mr A.R. Baig and Senior Superintendent of Police, Civil Defence, Mr Ghulam Sarbar also spoke on the occasion. Further the post of CPO, Kargil attached with ZPHQ Kashmir for drawal of pay of Mr. Farid-ud-din, CPO has been detached and restored to district Kargil. The pay of Mr. Farid-ud-din, CPO shall be drawn at ZPHQ Kashmir against the vacant post of DDP ZPHQ Kashmir. He shall continue to remain attached with SHRC. |
