| BJP urges EC to 'ensure free and fair' polls in Poonch-Haveli | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 7: Accusing the Congress-PDP government of misusing official machinery for election purposes in Poonch- Haveli Assembly Constituency, where by-polls are slated for December 12, the BJP on Friday urged the Election Commission to ensure "free and fair" polls. "The government and state election agency, which miserably failed to provide security to senior BJP leader Nirmal Singh during the campaign, must stop making noise that will ensure free and fair elections," state party president Ashok Khajuria told reporters here. Khajuria said the government failed to provide adequate security to Nirmal. He alleged that Congress leaders have occupied all the bungalows and government guest houses in the constituency and converted them into party election office. "The EC must take note of it and order the state government not to use official machinery during polls," he said. He also said the BJP was concerned about the recent developments in Leh area of Ladakh region where the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) is demanding Union Territory status for the region. "The BJP fully supports the demand of LBA for Union Territory status for Ladakh," he said. |
