| Tara Chand distributes relief among border migrants | | Asks authorities to expedite 6 months free ration | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 7 As a part of implementation of Prime Minister's relief package for Khour migrants, Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mr. Tara Chand today, distributed cheques amounting to Rs.37 lakh among 600 families of villages Samoan and Chaprial for tractorization of their land falling along the border. These families were living in make shift camps at Pallwan and other areas in Akhnoor tehsil and recently returned back to their homes on the persuasion of Speaker. While addressing a largely attended public meeting at Khour town Speaker said that State as well as Central Government paid timely heed to the problems of border people and special assistance for their rehabilitation was sanctioned. People are aware of the entire picture and they can assess the situation of development on ground. Due to border disturbance entire infrastructure got damaged and government restored the same on war footing after the return of people to their homes. He appreciated the patience of people who badly suffered due to border tension. He stressed upon the authorities to implement remaining part of rehabilitation expeditiously. He issued instructions to the revenue authorities to make demarcation of plots at the identified sites and start process of allotment at the earliest so that people could construct the alternate accommodation to meet any exigency in future, which is also a component of rehabilitation programme. Mr. Tara Chand also directed the authorities to pursue the matter of free ration for another six months for such families whose land falls across the ditch and could not be put to use and rent of land under the use of army across the ditch. The proposal to this effect has already been submitted to Government of India, which needs a vigorous follow up by the authorities, he added. Mr. Tara Chand apprised the gathering that Akhnoor-Planwala road widening would be taken up by BRO authorities on priority. This would mitigate the long pending demand of people of this border belt. He said that BRO would also take up development of road surface on the deteriorated patches at Khour town. He further said that BRO would be constructing a permanent bridge over Loakhi Khad Nallah and Manawar bridge over Tawi from Jogwan to Battal will also be taken up during the next year. He appealed the shopkeepers of Khour and Jourian towns to cooperate with the BRO authorities in widening process and amicably remove the encroachment from the road if any made. He said that this could be possible because of his constant meetings with the BRO authorities and also with Union Defence Minister recently. Various local leaders also addressed the gathering on the occasion. The officers of various departments were also present. |
