| BJP fears unfairness in Poonch- Haveli by-elections | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 7:Alleging congress using DakBunglows and rest houses located in the Poonch Haveli constituency as election offices, BJP today doubted over the fairness of elections scheduled to be held on December, 10. Addressing a press conference on Friday, Senior BJP leader and former President, Nirmal Singh said that Congress loses no opportunity to use government machinery for its benefit in Poonch Haveli by- elections. "All the government bunglows and restaurants of Poonch Haveli are occupied by the workers of congress party and they using the government machinery at will which creates enough doubt for the fairness of elections,” he said. Coming down heavily on coalition government and Election Commission, Nirmal said that the slogans regarding the free and fairness of by- elections in the constituency are hollow and this can easily be assessed by the fact that he was deprived of security cover during his recent visit to constituency for campaigning. He further said that it was disgusting that the state police department did not take cognizance of the repeated written and verbal pleas of his visit to constituency for electioneering which amply proves the intent of ruling congress party. Expressing concern over the developments in Leh, Nirmal said that there are definite reports that the "Congress goons", backed to the hilt by the police, have let loose a reign of terror in the area to frighten the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) cadres, who are striving to achieve the status of Union Territory for the region. "Even the Member of Parliament, Thupstan Chhewang, is not spared as the local police framed his PSO wrongly and withdrew him from the said MP which indicates the extent to which the Congress and the police have turned,” he said. |
