Srinagar | Dec 8:Various separatist organizations have drawn up a plan of staging protest rallies in Kashmir in connection with the international Human Rights day on December 10.These rallies are being organised to highlight increase in the level of human rights violations in Kashmir by the security forces.
The APHC leadership has plans to take a protest rally from the Hurriyat headquarters to Sheri Kashmir Park on the day where the party leaders would speak on the importance of honouring human rights.According to a senior APHC leader,Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat,”we plan to march in procession from our party headquarters to the sheri Kashmir Park in case the Government did not impose any restrictions.”
He said that the protest rally was aimed at persuading the Government to take measures for ending custodial killings, rapes and other atrocities on people by the security forces.Asked whether they would denounce human rights violations being committed by militants Prof. Nhat evaded a direct reply “saying we condemn all types of violence but the security forces are supposed to remain a disciplined body.”
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, headed by Mohd.Yasin Mailk, too plans to stage demonstrations in protest against alleged human rights violations being committed by the security forces in Kashmir on December 10.
Prof. Bhat said that besides violating human rights the Government of India has not fulfilled its commitments right from 1948 when it was supposed to hold a plebiscite as provided in the UN resolution on Kashmir. He said later during “our meetings with the Government of India and the two prime Ministers we had demanded withdrawal of troops, end to human rights violations and throwing the borders open for promoting people to people contact.” He said despite assurances the Government failed to implement them.
