Zargar reviews action plan for Aharabal Development Authority, power projects

Srinagar, August 22– Minister for Agriculture and Cooperative Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar has asked Aharabal Development Authority (ADA) and the executing agency of Aharabal Mini Hydle Power Project to coordinate their activities for speedy completion of the twin projects aimed at socio-economic development of the backward and remote Noorabad area.
He said Government has set up the development authority for Aharabal to facilitate development of adequate infrastructure. He said virgin beauty of the area, known for its world famous waterfall and perennial glaciers would soon emerge as a favourite destination for tourists visiting the valley. He said the 22.5 MW Aharabal Mini Power Projects are being constructed under Independent Power Producers (IPD) programme.
The Minister was speaking at a meeting held here today to review action plans of the twin projects, the ADA and Aharabal Mini Hydle Power project.
The Secretary Tourism, Director Technical Education, General Manager, Jai Prakash Industries Limited, Chief Executive Officer, ADA and representative of Revenue Department were also present in the meeting.
Mr. Zargar said that during execution of the power project all precautions should be taken to preserve the virgin beauty and ecology of the area alongwith mighty Aharabal waterfall.
Minister asked the Chief Executive Officer ADA to prepare a detailed Master Plan for development of tourism infrastructure in the area. He said drinking water and electricity supply should immediately be restored so that visiting tourists do not face any difficulty.
He asked the Director, Technical Education to transfer the state land at K. B. Pora to Jai Prakash Industries Limited, who would, as a good will gesture, set up a modern Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in the area at an estimated cost of Rs. 36.34 crore. The proposed ITI would be one of the best technical institutions in the Northern India having intake capacity of 500 trainees at a time. There will be a modern hostel also having 500 students capacity. Training would be imparted in eight modern disciplines in the Institution, which would be completed by the IPP within three years.
It was decided in the meeting that the Power Development Department would transfer state land at Tangmarg to jai Prakash Industries Limited on lease basis as quickly as possible so that execution of the power house takes off at an earliest. The JKTDC would also transfer gutted structure and the land in its vivinity to the Jai Prakash Industries Limited who will develop a modern recreational park.
