12/8/2007 10:43:17 PM
New Delhi | Dec 8: Charkha, a non-government organisation, has announced fellowships for women journalists to highlight their perspectives on the areas of conflict in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Sanjoy Ghose Media Fellowships 2007-08 aims to reflect alternate viewpoints that can add value to the efforts in finding workable solutions to the crisis faced by the people of the State for several years now.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, on Friday, presented the awards of Rs. 12000 each to -- Yangchan Dolma, a reporter from Ladakh; Anuja Khushu, a senior sub-editor with the Indian Express (Jammu); and Rabia Noor, a reporter with Greater Kashmir, Srinagar.
In her address, Sheila Dikshit appreciated the media’s role in portraying the role of women in peace and development.
During the fellowship period of six-months, the three journalists will explore the changing realities in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
While Dolma is researching on "Ladakhi women out of the closet and bringing about a silent revolution, " Khushu's topic of research is "Women crafting peace amid small arms proliferation" and Noor's is "Orphans of the Kashmir Conflict, a sociological insight into rights and reality. "
The fellowships are supported by Unnati Foundation India, a Delhi-based charitable non-profit organisation.
