| Police engages witchcrafts to solve theft mystery | | | ET Exclusive Jammu | Dec 8 It may look incredible but is a fact that despite availability of modern technology and other methods, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have sought the help of witchcrafts to solve a theft case. According to reports about four months back, thieves barged into Post office at Taryath during the night and decamped with cash amounting to Rs 36000 by breaking open the locker. When the staff members reported on duty next morning they found the lockers broken open and the cash missing and immediately informed the police and a formal case was accordingly registered. Sources said during the investigations, the police picked up several persons of the area for questioning and were let off after investigation. The local people of the area lodged a strong protest and criticized the police of its failure in nabbing the thieves. Following threats from the locals to intensify its stir against police, Incharge police post Taryath, arranged two witch crafts from Kathua district so solve the theft case .Sources said the two witch crafts reached in the area and started their work by planting a stick on the main Taryath chowk and after three days they took out the stick and entered in a house and said that the house owner was the thief. On their identification, the police took the poor man to police station for questioning. Sources said the local people, who watched all this with their naked eyes, started protests against the police and also closed their shops. They alleged that after having failed to arrest the thieves, the local police nabbed a poor person on the identification of wizards and demanded his immediate release . Sensing some trouble in the area, senior police officers rushed to the spot and assured the villagers that the arrested person would be released after questioning and stern action would be taken against the witch crafts for wrong identification. Incharge Police Post Taryath Bashir Kohli when contacted said that the police had tried several methods to solve the theft case but failed to find out any clue. Ramesh Sharma, a local shopkeeper, questioned what is the role of police if they still rely on wizards to trace out the culprits? |
