| Jammu, Srinagar included in mega cities project | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 8 Jammu and Srinagar cities have been included in a mega cities project by the Union Cabinet. Both Jammu and Srinagar have been put under developmental projects, which would cost around Rs 600 crore. The cities have been included in Phase-VII of the National Highways Development Project for construction of ring roads, bye-passes, fly-overs in mega cities as a special case, a central govt official said. The project was conceived for the mega cities of the country and however, this would help to decongest the twin cities. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had requested the Union Transport Minister T R Balu for the inclusion of the twin cities in phase-VII of the national highways development project (NHDP) for mega cities as a special case. The proposal has now been approved by the Union Cabinet and Rs 300 crore each would be spent on both the cities, he said. This would help in decongesting these cities as the project entails the construction of ring roads, bye-passes and fly-overs. Meanwhile, the Union Commerce Ministry has also sanctioned Rs 30 crore for the construction of an International Trade Centre (ITC) at Pampore in Kashmir valley, he added. |
