Jammu | Dec 8: The political circles in the winter capital were today left surprised when Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad drove to the residence of Peoples Democratic Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
This was the first courteous meeting between the two this year which witnessed a war of wits between the Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party on an array of issues.
Sources said that both leaders discussed a wide range of issues and arrived at a consensus on the issue of cabinet expansion and reshuffle. It is learnt that following meeting between Azad and Mufti the cabinet expansion is likely to take place on the evening of December 12 Azad accompanied by wife Shamin Dev Azad created flutter in the winter capital around 7.00 p.m as he drove straight to the official residence of PDP patron.
PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti was also present during the meeting which lasted more than one hour.
Relations between the allies were strained further after a round of makeover as Azad had shot off letter to PDP chief asking her to name their party candidate for the post of deputy chief minister for the last round of cabinet expansion without taking them in to confidence.
the PDP leadership had treated the gesture as a rude reminder from the senior ally that they are calling the shots .
Azad, according to highly placed sources, during his discussions with Mufti Mohd Sayeed emphasized synergy between the allies can ensure victory of the coalition candidate from Poonch assembly constituency.
Party sources when contacted said that Azad visited Mufti after he received a advisory from the party high command to keep Muftis in good humour and work in tandem to ensure victory in the Poonch bypoll. Party sources revealed that anticipating tough fight between NC and congress candidate party high command is not in a mood to leave any chance hence advised Azad to shake hands with Mufti and seek his advise before making last ditch efforts.
Both the leaders are also believed to have discussed the proposed cabinet expansion and finalized the names of party candidates expected to join the cabinet and take over as head of corporations .Sources said the cabinet expanison is now expected to take place after the by-polls are over.
