Unrest continues at JU campus, VC meets CM

Jammu | Dec 8: As the Jammu University campus continued to simmer for third consecutive day, the Vice Chancellor Prof Amitabh Mattoo this morning had a meeting with the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to discuss the situation arising out at the campus following clashed between groups of students.
However, the series of protests and demonstrations continued for the day. Irate students of Jammu University continued their protest against the University authorities for the third consecutive day here today demanding withdrawal of FIR against students leaders.
The students also burnt down effigy of university Vice Chancellor outside university campus and shouted slogans against the University authorities for failing to resolve the crisis and harassing students demanding security for their safety.
Students were expressing their anger against the university authorities for showing no concern towards their security concerns.
Classes also remained disrupted for the third consecutive day. Heavy deployment of police force on the campus prevented students from assembling inside the university gates leading to protests outside the campus gate.
Meanwhile former education minister and Panthers party leader Harsh Dev has appealed to the University authorities to listen to demands of the students and settle the issue to ensure academic activity was not disrupted for longer duration causing inconvenience to students.
Meanwhile, sources said, on Thursday when a group of students were staging protest demonstrations outside the chamber of the vice chancellor demanding action against students who forcibly beat up a section of students in the Vivekananda hostel security staff and faculty member had recovered a sharp edged weapon from the possession of a student just when he was attempting to gain entry inside the gate leading to vice chancellor's office.
At present investigators dealing with the case are trying to figure out whether the student armed with sharp edged weapon reached there to execute gory plan of attacking vice chancellor or it was just a security lapse.
Official sources said police team investigating the case have already outsourced video clipping and is trying to locate the whereabouts of the student and details of gory plan.
It may be mentioned that on Thursday when security officer posted outside the chamber of Vice chancellor in the presence of senior faculty member recovered a sharp edged weapon from the possession of a student they reported the matter to the police for further investigations.
The investigators are also trying to figure out whether the student leader from whose possession sharp edged weapon was recovered is associated with any group behind the plot.
Taking note of the volatile situation on the campus on Thursday University authorities had called police force to ensure no untoward incident takes place. But on Friday situation further went out of hand when police cane charged agitating students. Later former chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah also held talks with the student representatives and took up the matter with the chief Minister to break the ice.
