| Farooq pooh-poohed developmental claims of coalition govt | | | Early Times Reporter Poonch | Dec 8: Former Chief minister and National Conference Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah today pooh-poohed the claims made by the coalition government regarding development of infrastructure in state of Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a series of public meetings at Sawjian, Loran and Sathra in support of party candidate for Poonch-Haveli assembly constituency Aijaz Ahmed Jan, here today, Dr Abdullah categorically rejected the tall claims being made the coalition alliance. "The government has failed on all fronts", he said adding, "The developmental scenario, raising unemployment and sky rising prices of essential commodities speak volumes about the performance of state government". He said the fruits of so called economic progress are being cornered by the ministers and bureaucrats beside some big business houses. The government, he said, has not only failed to curb the rising prices but it is not even bothered to take stringent measures against black marketers and hoarders, which has resulted into total collapse of public distribution system. Rubbishing the government claim regarding development of infrastructure, Dr Abdullah says, "State was facing all-round crisis despite heavy inflow of funds from the center". "What happened to the special packages received from the center and where has this money gone", he asked while charging the coalition ministers for utilizing the public money for increasing their own comfort level". Despite tall claims by the government for bringing transparency and accountability in government sector, he said, "The ministers are eating the very vitals of state resources, which were meant for improving the socio economic condition of the people". He was of the opinion that with large sections of state populace depending on agriculture, the severe crisis facing that sector is hitting the farmers and agricultural labour hard. "There has been no relief for the people of the state as they are facing tremendous hardships due to the poor policies of the ruling alliance". Former chief minister chose to take the bull by its horns and drew tremendous applause when he said, "National Conference is coming up with a special policy for the unemployed youth of the state". "The graph of unemployment is assuming alarming dimensions, which will have dangerous consequences if not tacked immediately", he said adding, "If my party is voted to power in the next assembly elections, employment and development would be on our top priority". The three years of coalition rule, he said, has witnessed all promises of providing employment falling flat, which has created sense of resentment and frustration among the youth of the state, especially among those belonging to the remote and far flung areas. Accusing the ruling alliance of poor governance, Dr Abdullah said: 'The only thing flourishing in the state is corruption. Unemployment is at its peak but the state government is hardly bothered. They have done nothing for the state, and yet those sitting at the helm of affairs are coming to you with a fresh basket of promises seeking your vote and support.' "My party is well aware about the increasing demand of employment both by educated and marginal workers", he said adding, "We are working on a special employment package, which will take into consideration all important aspects so that the job opportunities will keep its pace with the increasing population growth". Seeking people's support, Dr Abdullah said that National Conference has never made false commitments or raked up emotional issues for petty political gains. Later addressing a gather of Sikh community at Poonch, Dr Abdullah recalled the basic principal of his party.
