| Student unions demand revocation of FIRs against leaders | | Denounce ragging, cane charge | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 9 Strongly condemning the FIR lodged against its State President Rahul, lathi charge on peaceful protesters and recent incidents of ragging, the Progress Student’s Association (PSA) today alleged that the administration was shielding the real culprits and targeting the innocent student leaders to suppress their voice. The PSA in a meeting held here today discussed the prevailing situation in Jammu University Campus and accused Vice Chancellor of communalizing the atmosphere in the campus by adopting divide and rule policy. The administration is spreading rumours and those involved in ragging are innocent students, the meeting observed and demanded that the Vice Chancellor should apologize for the lathi charge on innocent students, revoke FIR on PSA President, arrest all the culprits involved in ragging, besides implementation of model code of conduct. In the meantime, National Students Union of India, Jammu University President, Raja Majid Bhat and District President Jammu Raman Sharma, have strongly condemned the role played by the University authorities in general and VC in particular in the whole episode of ragging and the lathi charge on innocent students who were peacefully demonstrating against the ragging . These student leaders alleged that under the threat perception the VC has converted the entire campus into a police camp and held him responsible for human rights violation. They warned the university authorities to desist from leveling baseless charges against NSUI state general secretary Varinder Singh Chib and impressed upon the university authorities to revoke all charges against its leader apart from withdrawal of troops from the campus, failing which the NSUI would start ‘non-cooperation movement’ against the university authorities. Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association, besides Doda Joint Students Federation Doda, Pahari Speaking Students Union, Chenab Valley Students Association have strongly condemned the alleged ragging with the help of some outsiders, the professional criminals. In a statement issued here today the JURSEA in its meeting has decided to continue its strike in protest against the humiliating ragging practiced by unauthorized boarders along with some outside criminals. They alleged the attackers paraded the students naked and even did not spare the girl students. When the peaceful protestors demanded an immediate action against the assaulters, the university authorities cane charged the innocent students and arrested two of them, it alleged. Several other student organizations have demanded justification of cane charging on peaceful students apart from rustication of the culprits who beat the students in hostel and revocation of FIR’s on two student leaders. |
