| RIK condemns rights groups’ role | | | New Delhi | Dec 9 : "Roots In Kashmir" a frontline youth group raising awareness about the atrocities inflicted upon the Hindu Minority of Kashmir has condemned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for not coming to the rescue of the Kashmiri Pandits. It has been almost 14 years since the formation of the NHRC but it has completely failed to address the grievances of the Pandit community, which is living in its 18 th year of exile from its homeland. Kashmiri Pandit Children accompanied by activists and common people under the banner of Roots In Kashmir are holding a protest rally on the eve of International Human Rights Day in Delhi from Jantar Mantar to Shaheed B.K. Ganjoo Park at Gole Market to bring to light the injustice perpetrated on the Pandit community. The protesters along their path also paid obeisance at the Bangla Sahab Gurdawara signifying the importance of the martyrdom given by Guru Teg Bahadur for the Pandit Community. Similar protests are being organized in various parts of the country by Roots In Kashmir in places like: Ahemdabad, Baroda, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jammu, Pune etc. To escape persecution, more than 500,000 Kashmiri Pandits had to leave their home and hearths back in the valley and out of that more than 50,000 are still languishing in uninhabitable refugee camps in Jammu and Delhi. "The NHRC has ceased to exist for us. We have submitted memorandums, fought cases and even met all senior bureaucrats and officials to apprise them of the situation but no result till date," said Neeru Kaul an activist with the group. "It surely continues to work as a biased forum," she added. Inspite of cases of serious nature pending against terrorists like Yasin Malik and Bitta Karate, they roam free and get all support from the Indian Government; but the Pandits continue to live the life of refugees in their own land. While Yasin Malik himself is responsible for killing hundreds of innocents in the valley mercilessly; he now claims to be a human rights activist championing the cause of so-called freedom. He has no moral right to speak on an issue of such sensitive nature when he himself stands guilty of initiating the gun culture and bloodshed in the erstwhile peaceful valley. |
