Jammu | Dec 9: Because of the collapse of middle order batting, hosts Jammu and Kashmir could not make a good start and were struggling at 133 for eight after the opening day’s play was cut short due to bad light in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B league tie against Goa at GGM Science College ground here today.
As against six-hour playing day, only four hours game took place after the match was stopped by the umpires admitting the bad light appeal by the batsmen at the crease at 3 pm this afternoon. In the morning, due to poor visibility the play was resumed a bit late from the schedule time of 9.30 am.
Earlier, Goa won the toss and opted to field finding the wicket seam friendly. But the visitors could not take benefit of the moisture on the wicket after openers Ian Dev Singh and Vivek Singh made a cautioned start. However, Ian’s innings were cut short by Sourabh Bandekar, who got him caught through Shadab Jakati at the slips on 20.
It was followed by another good partnership of 39 runs between Vivek Singh and Arshad Bhat and both together brought the score to 82 runs for two. But soon after Vivek (28, 3x4) was out, the wickets fell at regular intervals with five batsmen went to the pavilion without touching the double figure mark.
Arshad Bhat, who was trapped leg before by Robin D’Souza, remained the highest scorer with 31 runs including six hits to the fence. When the stumps were drawn, Manzoor Dar and Pranav Mahajan were at the crease with three and 13 runs respectively.
Medium pacer, Sourav Bandekar was most successful bowler from Goa with four for 46 in 13 overs while Robin D’Souza and Shadab Jakati shared two each.
