| Kundal inaugurates Police Public Mela | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 9 Chief Secretary, Mr. B. R. Kundal today inaugurated the Day long Police Public Mela at Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground here. Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, the Mela was declared open by lighting the traditional lamp by Mr. Kundal, Mrs. Kundal, Director General of Police Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, Chairperson JKPWWA Dr. Indu Khoda, Senior Police Officers and members of welfare association. Large number of people were also present on the occasion. The mela an annual feature of Police Wives Welfare Association to generate resources for helping police personnel, their families, widows and martyrs. Appreciating the role of welfare organization for taking several measures for the welfare of police personnel their families, widows orphans and martyrs, Mr. Kundal said by organizing such melas amounting to achieve a noble cause. Describing the mela a sincere effort of Jammu and Kashmir Police Organization to help welfare measures and promote the police-public friendship, the Director General of Police Mr. Khoda said that such events help largely in achieving the cherished objectives. Talking to media persons on the occasion, the Director General of Police said that the mela will provide opportunity to the traders and small scale artisans to showcase their products and their sale increase, which would ultimately help to promote their business, he said the mela evoked overwhelming response from public and sale of good number of raffle draw tickets is indicates of public interest and the mela has emerged as one of the favorite attraction for the people waiting for the grand event. Kundal along with Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, Chairperson, JKPWWA, Dr. Indu Khoda, top ranking police officers and other functionaries of welfare association visited all stalls and evinced keen interest in the products kept in more than 40 stalls by various police welfare establishments from all the regions of the state, private concerns and some voluntary organizations. They also interacted with the stall holders, police personnel and their families and enquired about their well being. Earlier, the Director General of Police Mr. Kuldeep Khoda and Chairperson, JKPWWA Dr. Indu Khoda briefed the Chief Secretary and other dignitaries about the objectives of organizing the mela and said that sale proceeds so realized from the selling of various items kept by police welfare centers in different stalls would be utilized for the welfare of police personnel and their families with special emphasis on the martyrs widows. The main attraction of the mega event was raffle draw, stalls of Kashmiri embroidery, jewelery, cosmetic, Chinese furniture, Ladakhi carpets, phulkari work, walnut and willow furniture, stationery and books, tambola, kitchen ware, rides and jhullas, lucky dip, veg and non veg eatables, majic show, elephant and horse ridings and cultural programmes. The star attraction was 1st prize (Scorpio one), 2nd prize (Maruti Esteem one), 3rd prize (Maruti-800 three) 4th prize (Motor Cycles seven), 5th prize (Computer laptops five), 6th prize (Computer Desktops five), 7th prize (Sony Handicam Camera ten), 8th prize (Mobile Phone Nokia ten), 9th prize (CTV 21” five), 10th prize (CTV 14” five), 11th prize (Rs. 500 each for 100 ticket holders) and 12th prize (Rs.100 each for 2000 ticket holders. |
