| Fast track development producing visible results on ground: Mangat | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 10 Asserting that focused attention is being paid on fulfilling developmental needs of the people, the Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma today said that massive development programme set in across the state on fast tracks producing visible results at grass root level. Addressing a public gathering at Keri after inauguration of Government Middle School upgraded to the level of Higher Secondary here on Monday, the Minister said that efforts have been made to create infrastructure on a massive scale in the shortest possible time. He said completion of projects in record time have been witnessed by adopting innovative double and triple shift system. He said the construction of 22 district and sub-district hospitals is in progress and would be completed upto May 2008. He said 200 bedded pediatric block in SMGS hospital Jammu involving a cost of Rs. 16 crore would be completed in April 2008 while phase I of Rs 1466 crore dental college Jammu has already been completed . He said out of about 200 health institutions being set up to strengthen health services across the state during last two years , work on about 35 centers is likely to be completed by March 2008. He said 6 Trauma hospitals along National High Way have already been approved at a cost of Rs. 8.73 crore. Pt. Mangat said that execution of 15 college complexes across the state would be completed upto 2008 at the cost of Rs. 59.08 crore. He said 1012 uncovered and partially covered habitations were provided potable water during last two years and 482 new water supply schemes approved at an estimated cost of Rs. 900 crore. He said under, 10 towns have been brought under Accelerated Urban Water Supply Programme to augment potable water supply involving a cost of Rs. 39.27 crore while as another 38 towns are being brought under Urban Integrated Development scheme to augment drinking water supply. Maintaining that cooperation of people was must for percolating the benefits of welfare schemes to the targeted beneficiaries, Mr. Sharma said that government has made it clear that people should become stakeholders in the development and play their role effectively. Responding to the local demands, Mr. Sharma said that all their genuine demands would be redressed. Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Mr. Romesh Chander Sharma addressing on the occasion said that focused attention is being given for socio-economic transformation of the people especially living in Kandi and hilly areas of the state. He said various reformative and exemplary steps have been taken to ensure all round development of these areas. He said hundreds of new primary schools were opened and upgraded while as scores of new degree colleges have been set up in remote areas to facilitate the youth. Former MLA Mr. Shiv Dev Singh and senior congress leaders also spoke on the occasion. |
