Jammu | Dec 10: Signaling that ethnic and cast identity is going to dominate the next Assembly elections in a big way, an organization, J&K Gujjar Bakarwal Conference claiming to represent state's entire Tribal population today announced that it is contemplating to fight from twelve constituencies having majority votes of the twin communities.
Addressing media persons at a press Conference here today the president of the organization Haji Mohammad Yousaf, however said that for now they are going to support Congress candidate in Poonch Heaveli By -elections in lieu of the ruling party's implementation of SRO 126.
Declaring that their support to Congress candidate would be limited only for Poonch Heaveli Constituencies, Hajji said that in next Assembly elections, his organization would sponsor its own men in 12 Assembly segments having majority tribal votes who would fight as independent candidates.
He said the decision of fielding candidates has been taken by the community after facing continuous disappointment at the hands of subsequent governments in fulfilling the long pending demand of political reservation for Tribal population of the state.
Arguing in favour of the claim of the tribal communities for having political reservation, Hajji said it is the constitutional right of Gujjars and Bakarwals which is being denied to them only for political reasons.
Claiming that Congress would be greatly benefited by the support being extended by his organization in Poonch Heaveli by-elections, he said the party would get assured thirty thousand votes of Tribals living in the Assembly segment as a gift from the community in return of relaxations given to the later under the new SRO.
