| Its official: PDP-Congress to face elections in alliance | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 10: Its official now –the Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress, despite their inherent ideological differences and after fighting in the public, will contest the forthcoming assembly elections in an alliance. Though the continuation of this alliance seems to have arrived at through a decision of the Congress high command, but the ease in relations comes following recent meeting between Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at the latter's residence. "It is certain that the PDD and Congress will form an alliance for the next elections but the only thing yet to be decided is whether it will be a pre-poll alliance or tactical alliance", said Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig here this evening. Speaking to a Television news channel, Baig said, Congress and the PDP are the natural partners and the electoral alliance between them is important to keep the parties like the National Conference and the BJP out of power. Baig said that the differences between the Congress and the PDP were merely of the perception and have been sorted out. "Mufti and Azad have together worked in the Congress, they have regards for each other, political differences sometime crop up but these have been sorted out", he added. When reminded of the numerous pullout threats from the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, the Deputy Chief Minister said, "she reflected the majority opinion of the party cadres who felt bad at the Qazi Mohammad Afzal episode". Baig admitted that some people in party were not happy with his re-induction as Depity Chief Minister. He said, "yes I know some people are not happy with comeback". He said that there were no differences or clashes of ideology or principles in his party some people were too ambitious to grab power. Baig said that after 15 months he is a different man has learned lessons. He vowed that now after he will be accessible to the people and will work still harder for strengthening the party. |
