Dr Dorjay wuld discuss in detail the "Pre-Tibetan Buddhist Rock Sculptures of Ladakh," through a powerful power point presentation. These Buddhist rock sculptures of Ladakh are usually found on the trade ancient trade routes passing through Ladakh. Thus these sculptures were carved mostly by missionaries on their from mainland India way to Tibet and other central Asian countries. These carving bear the witness of early introduction of Buddhism and Buddhist art in Ladakh from Indian side especially from Kashmir. Right through the history we find that the valley of Kashmir has remained as epicenter of erudition and a meeting point for people and ideas of carious cultures. The rock carvings of Ladakh broadly reflects strong influence of Kashmiri sculpture tradition, the custom of carving colossal images from live rock in Ladakh may well have been inspired by carved relief in the Swat valley and Afghanistan. Dr Dorjay who has presented papers in many national and international conferences including a paper on Ancient Rock Carvings of Ladakh in International Association of Ladakh Studies in University of Rome, Italy, is presently engaged as Research Member in the Research Project, Principles of Architecture and construction of Buddhist Temples in the Western Himalaya", at the Institute for Architecture Technology, Graz University of Technology, Austria.
