On the directions of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) Government of India to hold sports activities at the school level, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) is organizing inter-school competititions in different disciplines for under-16 boys and girls of district Udhampur at Sports Stadium, here.
On the first day of the meet, competititons were organized in the events of volleyball, wrestling and athletics. “The ongoing competitions are part of the scheme launched by the MYAS under promotion of sports and games in schools,” District Youth Services and Sports officer, B N Bhat told SAN.
In boys volleyball, Higher Secondary School Tikri and Higher Secondary School Garhi have reached the final, which shall be played tomorrow. Earlier, the competitions were declared open by District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Bhasker Nath Bhat.

WRESTLING: 35-40 kg: Purshotam Singh of HSS Khoon, Ist and Ajay Kumar of HSS Jaganoo, 2nd. 40-45 kg: Chain Singh of HS Kagote, Ist and Narinder of HS Jadrare, 2nd. 50-55 kg: Uttam Singh of HSS Khoon, Ist and Rakesh Kumar of HSS Khoon, 2nd. 56-60 kg: Raghubir of HS Kagote, Ist and Romesh of City HS Udhampur, 2nd.
ATHLETICS:
Boys: 800 mts race: Sunil Kumar, HS Upper Thana, Ist; Yogesh Choudhary, HSS Udhampur, 2nd and Sahil Sharma, HSS Garhi, third. Shot Put: Romesh Kumar, HS Jandrare, Ist; Romal Singh, City HS Udhampur, 2nd and Raghubeer Singh, HS Kagole, third.
