Dim chances of Cong, NC tie-up as PDP, Cong re-tie the knot

Fast political events, especially the fresh honeymoon between the Congress and the PDP,seem to have buried all the chances for a tie-up between the National Conference and the Congress. In fact during the last three years the National Conference leadership had been trying to mend fences with the Congress in order to see the PDP, its arch political rival, out of power.
At one stage the National Conference leadership was prepared to lend support to the Azad led Government from outside in case the PDP pulled out of the Government. But both the Congress high command and Dr Farooq Abdullah’s political friend,Muzaffar Hussain Baig, are said to have sealed, at least for the time being, chances for a Congress-NC tie-up.
And Dr Farooq Abdullah is aware of the changed situation otherwise he would not have fulminated against the Congress over its machinations in the recently held by election in Pooch-Haveli Assembly constituency. When Yeshpal Sharma filed his nomination papers as a rebel congress candidate, after he was denied the party ticket, poll experts had predicted an easy win for the National Conference candidate, Aijaj Jan.The poll results proved the poll analysts and the National Conference leaders incorrect when the Congress candidate,Jehangir Mir,won by a confortable margin.
Knowing that he has burnt the boats with the Congress Dr Farooq Abdullah had no inhibitions while blaming the Congress for having used “money power” in influencing not only the voters but in encouraging a rebel National Conference candidate,Shah Mohd.Tantrey,to contest the election. He polled over 7,000 votes which when added to the NC candidate could have given him victory.
Inside reports said that Dr Abdullah is not as much angry against the poll verdict in Pooch as he is against the fresh honeymoom between the Congress and the PDP.His ire against the congress is thus understandable because he has felt hurt over the way the Congress high command had preferred Mufti Mohd.Sayeed to him.
Dr Farooq has also expressed his fears that the Congress may rig the next Assembly election.During the last three years he and other NC leaders have been more vocal in berating the role of the PDP than in attacking the Congress. On several occasions Dr Abdullah has been seen exchanging pleasantries with Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad.He seems to lost his game and now the National Conference leadership is waiting for the election time which will determine whether Congress and the PDP contest the poll jointly or separately.Abdullah has predicted that the Congress-PDP ship may sink within the next election.
