| SKUAST-Jammu organizes training programme on IPM for farmers | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 19 A training programme on Integrated Insect-Pest and Disease Management for sub-tropical fruit crops was organized by Directorate of Extension Education of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology at Village Jafferchak. The programme was organized under Horticulture Technology Mission project entitled “On Farm Trainings on Recent Trends in Integrated Insect-pest and Disease Management for Sub-tropical Fruits”. About 56 orchardists from different adjoining villages participated in the programme. The programme was inaugurated by Dr.R.K.Arora, Dy. Director Extension Education and Principal Investigator of the project who emphasized the need to adopt the preventive and biological methods to control pests & diseases of fruit crops. He apprised the participants that main aim of organizing such programmes was to make awareness among the farmers about the latest scientific techniques for the integrated insect pest and disease management in mango, citrus, guava, and peach fruit crops. He urged up on the farmers to abstain from using excessive pesticides and adopt those measures which do not affect the environment and human health. Dr. Sushil Kumar, Research Associate demonstrated the low cost scientifically validated technologies for the control of various insect-pests and diseases in the fruit crops in the horticulture farm. He also delivered a comprehensive talk on integrated disease management of various fruit crops. A kisan ghoshti was also held during the programme in which the farmers posed their problems faced by them in the cultivation of various crops especially seasonal vegetables The various resource persons present on the occasion replied the querries of the farmers and requested them to adopt latest recommendations given by SKUAST-Jammu for cultivation of various crops including fruits and vegetables. All the participants expressed gratitude to the organizers and requested that such programmes should be conducted frequently and pre-season to create awareness among the farming community. |
