| Azad offers Eid prayers at Delhi's historic Jama Masjid | | Addresses congregation, highlights spread of education for economic development of Muslims | | New Delhi | Dec 21 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad joined tens of thousands of devotees to offer Eid prayers at the historic Jama Masjid here today and underscored the need for educational development of Muslims for their rapid economic and social progress. Azad, who was here in connection with meeting of National Development Council and Chief Ministers' conference convened by the Prime Minister in the Union capital, offered the Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the 17th century Grand Mosque this morning and exchanged Eid greetings with the people. A large number of New Delhi based diplomats from various countries and prominent citizens were also present. As a special gesture, the Chief Minister was invited to address the huge Eid congregation during which he extended his heartiest greetings to the people of the country and spoke about the philosophy of Eid-ul-Adha. He emphasized on the need for following the cardinal principles of Islam to achieve success in the world and hereafter. He said the philosophy of sacrifice behind the Eid-ul-Adha needs to be fully understood and followed in true spirit. He said one must offer oneself as an embodiment of sacrifice to serve the society and the deserving masses. Azad made a special reference to the economic backwardness of Muslims in the country and prescribed educational uplift as its remedy. He said educational backwardness leads to ignorance and keeps a people hostage to superstitions, which in turn block the road to progress. He urged the community to invest in the spread of education, saying educational development would ensure their social and economic emancipation. Meanwhile, Chief Minister has extended warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. In a message of felicitation, Azad hoped that the occasion would dawn a new era of progress in the state and usher an atmosphere of complete normalcy and peace. He asked the people to celebrate the Eid in its true spirit and spare a thought for the less privileged people in the society. By sharing the joy of the auspicious day with them one could only enhance ones own happiness besides inviting blessings of the Almighty, he added. |
