| Authorities prevent spread of anti-national oratory | | Geelani placed under house arrest | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU | Dec 21
Separatist Hurriyat Conference activist Syed Ali Shah Geelani was on Friday put under house arrest, official sources said. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have put restrictions on the activities of Geelani, the self-styled chairman of the hard-line group of the so called All Parties Hurriyat Conference, on Id-ul-Azha and placed him under house arrest, the sources said. Sources added Geelani was slated to address a public gathering after Id prayers in the afternoon at the Jama Masjid, while a large contingent of police swooped on his residence on Friday morning and stopped all the entry and exit points of Geelani's house. Sources further disclosed that Geelani had plans to deliver some provocative speech which could have disturbed the harmony in the region and hence was taken under preventive custody. "On earlier occasions also, Geelani has been put under house arrest for delivering provoking anti-national speeches while he was not allowed today to move out of his residence here," sources said. |
