Poonch | Dec 21
Indian and Pakistani troops on the Line of Control today exchanged sweets at Chakan-da-Bagh crossing point in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha on Friday. The gates at Chakan-da-Bagh point were opened on the occasion of Eid and Indian troops led by Col J P Yadav handed over sweets to the Pakistani personnel, defence sources said. The Pakistani troops, led by Col Zia of 35 Baloch Regiment, reciprocated the gesture. This is the fourth occasion during this year that Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged sweets and dry fruits at Chakan-da-Bagh point, the previous days being August 14, October 13 (on the eve of Eid- ul Fitr) and November 9 (Diwali). Chakan-da-Bagh is opened every fortnight to facilitate cross-LoC movement of civilians from both parts of divided Jammu and Kashmir.
A ceasefire continues to hold along the LoC and international border since November 2003.
