| Chaman expresses concerns over mysterious halt to ‘Seek and Destroy’ Operations | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 22 Former Union Minister and senior Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Prof Chaman Lal Gupta after conducting an tour in Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda districts expressed serious concerns over the soft approach from state and union governments towards the terrorism and its mentors. Addressing a press conference here today Prof Chaan Lal Gupta expressed grave concerns over the halt of the efforts to curb the militancy in the state. He specifically mentioned that the SEEK and DESTROY OPERATIONS” initiated by the troops have been mysteriously come to a halt despite the infrastructure of the militancy still exists and the infiltration bids are still continuing indicating no change in the mind of the operators of cross border terror. According to reliable reports about two lakh deadly weapons, crores of bullets, lakhs of grenades/explosive devices and tonnes of deadly explosives have been smuggled into the state by the mentors of militancy, he said. Senior BJP leader also said that about two thousand trained ultras are still active including about a thousand of them foreigners with over five hundred of the total believed to active in the Districts of Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda itself. Expressing his fears, BJP leader Prof Gupta said that the stoppage of search operations to curb the militancy has ended in fraught and have dangerous potentials. ‘The Village Defence Committees (VDCs) who have played pivotal role in defeating the evil designs of fundamentalists and terrorists in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban but yet are facing the neglect of the state government. Even the solemn assurances given in and outside the Parliament are not being honoured, he added. Gupta further alleged that all schemes initiated keeping in view the backwardness and static importance of these areas several schemes during the NDA rule but almost all these schemes have been shelved or put in the cold storage after the change of guards at New Delhi. Mentioning that most important of these schemes included the linking of Kishtwar-Paddar areas with Pangi in Himachal to use it as second defence route, Bhaderwah-Basohli road projects, Chamba-Bhaderwah road all have been put on the back seat, he said. He said NDA rule took up the project Karthai Hydel Power Project in Paddar area in addition to five other major projects under the centrally sponsored schemes but all these projects now are in disarray. Alleging state coalition for doling out assurances only, Former Union Minister Prof Gupta said, “The districts of Ramban and Kishtwar are just on papers. The plight of educational institutions is all the more plightable, drought hit people still looking for relief watched the coalition busy in dealing with its internal struggle for survival. He also demanded free ration at least for the minimum of at least six months for every family. |
