| High alert sans security men | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 23 On the eve of festival season Jammu and Kashmir police officers often make loud noises about tightening security grid and sounding an alert to avoid untoward incidents. On the ground when a team of Kashmir Independent Press went around in the city on the eve of Chirstmas and New Year celebrations it stumbled upon glaring loop holes in the security apparatus raising many a eyebrows. To begin with when a team was moving towards city’s only arterial expressway corridor it found that none of the security pickets manned by jawans of CRPF were occupied by any of the security personnel. All the check points on the expressway were found empty and even no jawan of the state police was found patrolling. As we moved little further the security check points near the MLA hostel were also found empty barring presence of one jawan at the entry point of one of the gates of the MLA hostel. Security men were found stationed outside the secretariat building but as we moved further the presence of security personnel put on patrol and guard duty at several other vantage points including Railway station, Circular road,Indira chowk, Amphala, outside civil secretariat was found thin. Alarmingly the main check point near Press club on the Tawi bridge was also found empty as no jawan was present inside the security picket. The jawans posted outside the district police lines and police headquarter building were found gossping hanging their guns aside on the barricade or were found reading newspapers or loitering in the vicinity. On inquiry it was found that in order to ensure incident free and fair polls in Poonch by-poll several companies of CRPF were shifted to Poonch. What is intriguing is the fact that despite announcing the results of the Poonch by-poll on December 15 these companies are yet to return to their duties in Jammu. |
