| Ware House Traders Federation submit memo to CM | | Gupta demands development of infrastructure in Mandi | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 23 WARE HOUSE Traders Federation has demanded allotment of special funds for infrastructure development, throwing open the alternative road from Satwari to Ware House via Belicharana, construction of fly over at Bikram Chowk, reduction in VAT on commodities, besides granting ownership rights of shops to the allottes under Roshni Act. Romash Chander Gupta President, Traders Federation Ware House in his pre-budget memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister has alleged that the wholesale Mandi which has been contributing nearly Rs.100 crore annually to the state exchequer by way of taxes, lacks the basic facilities causing great inconvenience to both the traders and the clients. He said the movement of food grains has increased manifold without up gradation of proper infrastructure of roads and related facilities thereby creating avoidable impediments for the traders of this Mandi. The memorandum further says that the decade old shops of this biggest trading centre, which is providing employment to about 5000 people, has lost its glory as no attention has been paid by the government for renovation and repairs of thee shops. He said that the allottes should be granted ownership rights under the Roshni Act. He said the callous attitude of the authorities has put the trade and the trader of ware house in disarray and the supply of food grains to far flung areas has been reduced to just five per cent of the total requirement resulting in the scarcity of these commodities in these areas adding to the miseries of the public who are already facing the brunt of militancy. Referring to VAT, Gupta said that it was much higher in Jammu and Kashmir compared to the neighboring states and in this connection referred several instances. He said while VAT on dry fruits, dry powder milk, whole milk, desi ghee in the state is 12.5 per cent it is just 4 per cent in neighboring states and demanded that atta, maida, suji, gur, sugar, salt, rice of all varieties, besides the pulses, should be kept outside the purview of VAT and kept permanently in Zero category. Gupta in his memorandum hoped that if these measures are adopted the supply line to the far flung areas of this state could be satisfactorily restored and help flourish trade thereby generating more employment avenues for the unemployed youth. |
