‘Abdullah describes him as a great visionary’
118th birth anniversary of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan

AN IMPRESSIVE function was held today to celebrate the 118th birth anniversary of late Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan. The function organized by the Mahajan Sabha Gandhi Nagar Jammu and Greater Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha was marked by an unprecedented gathering respecting all parts of the state.
Former Chief Minister and National Conference Patron, Dr. Abdullah was the chief guest on the occasion.
Highlighting the high ideologies of Justice Mehar Chand, who served the state as the first Prime Minister and lately as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Farooq described him a greater visionary and a eminent jurist adding that his contribution in the country’s apex court would always serve as a guiding torch. Mehar Chand immensely contributed for the development of Jammu and its people, Abdullah added.
Speaking on the occasion O P Gupta and Jugal Mahajan referred to the commendable services of Justice Mahajan while holding different prestigious positions and in particular as a member of Boundary Commission. He commanded respect because of his consecutive approach towards the eradication of social evils like dowry, they said and urged the youngsters to take a lead in conducting marriage without dowry and with minimum expenses.
Kundal Lal Gupta President Greater Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha, speaking on the occasion, impressed upon one and all to observe simplicity and serve the society with dedication and honestly, irrespective of caste, colour and creed. ‘The youngsters could help in rendering the foundation of the society strong, which is the need of the hour, he remarked.
