Pakistan still on the brink of civil war
Professed purpose of imposing emergency not achieved

Suicide attack by an Islamic jehadi on the Eid prayer congregation in a village near Peshawar in Pakistan on Friday, killing 54 persons and wounding another hundred is a grim reminder of nemesis having a full circle and Pakistan meeting the poetic justice. The country which had been the epicenter of international terrorism and which adopted terrorism as a state policy and exported the same to the neighbouring countries, is today the victim of the same. Till, what has come to be known as 9/11 2001, when USA became victim of Islamic Jehadis, which were earlier fully supported and sponsored by Pakistan these very Islamic Jehadis, who in the past created a sort of civil war in Afghanistan and whom the ruling establishment of Pakistan, including the President of the country, General Parvez Musharraf, have been trying to use against India, have today brought Pakistan itself on the brink of civil war. On July 3 last Pakistani security forces fought a gun battle with militant students from a pro-Taliban mosque, "Lal Masjid" in the heart of the country's capital Islamabad which left at least ten students and one soldier killed while several dozen others injured. The fighting erupted after six months of tension and threatening pastures of the hard line Lal Masjid Jehadis, who were all out to create a situation that existed in Afghanistan after its complete Talabisation and the country's take over by the Islamic fundamentalist jehadi force of Taliban, who profess to establish Islamic state all over the world, to be governed by Shriat laws.
On November 3, Pak President, Parvez Musharraf, who was cornered from all sides, with threat to his position and apprehension of the Supreme Court of that country setting aside his re-election as president of the country while donning army uniform, while on the other hand Islamic jehadis having waged a war on him on account of his siding with the USA, took the desperate step to impose emergency, suspend the constitution, detained all the judges of the Supreme Court as well as a large number of advocates who opposed his authoritarian moves. While imposing the emergency in Pakistan Parvez Musharraf made two excuses for the same. First the war launched on the lawfully established institutions in the country by the Islamic jehadis, who are indulging in all sorts of violence and defaming the fair name of the country as well as of Islam. The second excuse was the judiciary placing obstacles in his drive against the jehadis. But in fact the real purpose was to safeguard his own position and lust for perpetuating his personal absolute rule over the country. The real purpose having been achieved, with his re-election validated by the hand picked judges of the Supreme Court and the country's constitution amended by the captured interim government and senate, Parvez Musharraf has lately lifted the emergency, without in any way achieving the main professed objective of containing the Islamic Jehadis, who have rather been strengthened, as is evident from Friday's mayhem in North Western Pakistan.
There can be two explanations for this state of affair to have reached, where the country appears to be in the grip of civil war. One explanation is that this confrontation and armed fighting between the forces of President Parvez Musharraf and the Islamic Jehadis has been staged managed and shadow boxing by President Parvez Musharraf, to convince the western countries as well as the liberals within his own country about his indispensability, by giving a rehearsal of the condition that will emerged after he is no more at the helm of affairs in Pakistan. By doing so, while on one hand he may be trying to divert the attention from growing opposition within the country to his authoritarian rule and the high level confrontation by the intelligentsia, judiciary as well as the media with President Musharraf, after the latter removed the Chief Justice of the country Iftikhar Choudhary. This can also be an alibi to seek continuous support to him by the USA and other western powers, in his claimed war on terrorism and Islamic fundamentalists in the country. The second explanation is that President Musharraf's grip over the administration and the country has loosened, despite all the unconstitutional methods adopted by him to sustain his control over all the institutions of the country. The semblance of war launched by him on Islamic fundamentalist Jehadis, in alliance with USA and other western countries, has actually turned the Jehadis thirsty of his blood. In both cases the General appears to be in a state of desperation, with open war between his supporters and opponents having already ensued. In any case the situation that has developed is the creation of Parvez Musharraf's himself and he appears to be becoming a victim of conspiracies, which he hatched for others. Whether the country can survive out of this turmoil are becomes another Afghanistan only the coming time will tell.
