| Our policies have paid: CM | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 23 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that the surrender of militants was the result of confidence building measures taken jointly by the central and the state governments to restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He said during the past 19 years as many as 4000 militants had surrendered before the authorities. He said militants were increasingly realizing the futility of violence and wanted to abdicate the path of terror and join back the national mainstream. He said situation in the state was fast returning to normal and cited laying down of arms by militants as an indication of this. The Chief Minister urged the parents of militants, still holding the arms, to persuade their children to return to the path of peace and contribute to the development of the State. He said the past two decades of militancy have left Jammu and Kashmir far behind in matters of progress and development. He said he was hopeful that the agenda of peace and development pursued by his government would encourage more youth to shun violence and return to the mainstream. He said the militants were also realizing that the country that pushed them into J&K for carrying out acts of terrorism was itself on cross-roads today. He said they have understood that their lives were ruined for no rhyme or reason besides bringing about death and destruction across the State. This realization, he said was motivating them to rethink about their activities. Azad sought cooperation of all sections of society, especially the youth, in taking forward his development agenda for the State. He said he was single-mindedly pursuing this agenda to make Jammu and Kashmir a prosperous and peaceful state. He said the development activities have been speeded up across the State during the past two years with emphasis on providing basic amenities to the people including in far-off and remote areas. He said the massive infrastructure development taken up by the government would require peaceful atmosphere and active participation of the people to transform economic profile of J&K and urged them to be the stake holders in the State's development. The Chief Minister had a word of appreciation for the State Police bringing down the level of violence and restoring the confidence of people. |
