Heads or tails: Baig in win-win situation

Jammu | Dec 23
If circumstances landed People’s Democratic Party to eat its own pie or is it succumbing to Congress - but it was Muzaffar Hussain Baig who has reasons to smile as he is in complete win-win situation. It was same Baig who was forced to come down unceremoniously by the same party for certain reasons better known to the party itself.
In a major development, Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to induct former deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig into the council of ministers during the recently held cabinet meeting in the second week of December after he being put to a long spell of hibernation from active politics since August 2006 when he was recalled by his own party due to certain reasons especially fanning of rumours about closeness between Chief minister Ghulam nabi Azad and then Deputy Chief Minister who missed Party convention at Udhampur for his pre occupancy with chief minister in Bhaderwah in last August.
People still are amazed and looking for answers to simple queries first what made PDP to force the then Deputy Chief Minister Muzzafer Hussain Baig to climb down from the prestigious post during the first year of Azad led coalition. Secondly what has compelled the party high command to throw the dice in his name for this post once again when party was also doing ‘a balancing act’ for pulling along the infuriated Ex Minister for Tourism and Housing, Urban Development G H Mir.
There are reports that Baig is likely to shoulder with the portfolios of Panning and Development, Tourism and Law. Now the apprehensions and speculations have been kicked off within the political circles how do the ‘present chief minister’s men in state cabinet of ministers’ take this sudden shift of power. ‘Will they revolt against this snatching of power or not, some observed in political circles.
Rumours hit within the political set up about the chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to announce a minor cabinet reshuffle after the results of Gujarat Polls have set the mercury in state politics swallowed a bit higher.
It is to mention that Baig resigned when Azad led coalition was forced to ‘chop off the wings of then Deputy Chief Minister Baig (who took over as minister for finance and deputy chief minister on November 3, 2005) by his own party when PDP high Command pressurized the coalition to induct Tariq Hameed Qarra as Minister for Finance.”
The possible probabilities that are being tapped in political circles are if Baig be forced by the party high command to continue without the prestigious portfolio of Finance Ministry then PDP should be ready to face the ire of Kara and his supporters though party has claimed that Kara will present the coming budget but the ‘which way the wind blows in the coming days’ no one knows and all have opted for wait and watch policy with Mir & Co still sitting on hard grounds.
