| BJP to rework poll strategy | | Development, Terrorism will be main poll plank | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 24 After celebrating the emphatic victory of BJP in Gujarat assembly polls the state unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party in Jammu is gearing up to rework its poll strategy ahead of 2008 polls. The party unit has already set itself a target of winning more than 20 assembly seats in the state and is banking heavily on its traditional vote bank to stage a come back.According to party insiders the response of the voters in Gujarat has infused new lease of life among party cadre and they are gearing up for the state assembly polls in a big way.The party insiders said the state unit will focus on the issue of development and tackling menace of terrorism in the state during its campaign.The final poll strategy will be reworked by the state unit chief in consultation with the central leadership. The state Unit Chief Ashok Khajuria is also working hard these days to strengthen the party in the state.He recently announced that the next government tin Jammu and Kashmir will be formed on the dictates of BJP.Khajuria is hoping to cash in on the rift between the coalition allies and step motherly treatment meted out to Jammu region in the allotment of funds and other avenues. Khajuria, according to party insiders is in constant touch with central leadership of the party to rework party’s poll strategy. It may be mentioned that BJP could secure only one seat in 2002 polls. Senior party leaders believe that if the state leadership sincerely work and iron out differences with in the party the state unit can still throw some surprises in the 2008 polls. " We have trusted vote bank and if we will start exposing the wrong deeds of the coalition govt and its inept handling of Kashmir affairs there is no doubt why the party cannot win sizeable number of seats", a senior party functionary said. |
