Jammu | Dec 24
A deputation of residents from Nai Basti, Rampur under Gandhinagar constituency here met the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today and apprised him about their problems, seeking his intervention to address these.
Local MLA Raman Bhalla led the deputation and pleaded their case before the Chief Minister. MLA Shanti Devi was also present.
The deputation informed the Chief Minister that the residents of Nai Basti, Hajipur and Rampur at Satwari living on the two banks of a Nallah have been served with notices of eviction. The residents, they said, have been living on the site since 60 years and have constructed own residential houses and shops. They pleaded that being poor people they are not in a position to pay the value of the land. The deputation demanded that their case may be considered under the Roshni Act as they are ready to deposit the amount under the Act.
The Chief Minister listened to the deputation with rapt attention and asked the Revenue Secretary to go through the relevant documents and discuss the course of action to be taken in the matter.
Bhalla also apprised the Chief Minister about traffic congestion in his constituency and demanded early construction of a flyover between Bikram Chowk to Convent Crossing so that the traffic problem is resolved. He said the construction of the flyover is already approved and asked for immediate start of the project. He highlighted the need for improvement of internal roads in Jammu city and up-gradation of the stretch of the National Highway from Satwari to Kunjwani for smooth flow of traffic. He also projected demands of Gorkha and Valmiki communities and development issues in refugee basties at Gadigarh and Bhour Camp.
Bhalla complimented the Chief Minister for the massive development works taken up by his government across the State, saying Mr. Azad has ushered J&K into a new era of progress. He said infrastructure development during the past two years has touched unprecedented heights and facilitated the common people even in the remotest corners of the State. Basic amenities have been up-graded and provided in the hitherto neglected areas, he added and hoped that the government would more vigorously pursue the agenda of development initiated by Mr. Azad.
