Serial blast suspect handed over to UP police

One of the suspected Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI) militant, suspected to be behind UP serial blasts - who was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police from Chatroo area of Kishtwar district - was today handed over to a special team of Special Task Force from Uttar Pradesh Police, which arrived, here last evening.
Sources disclosed, on the condition of anonymity, that Sajad Ahmed, a resident of Village Kuchal in Chatroo tehsil, was arrested by the police on the direction of Director General of Police, who was provided a lead by UP police.
Sources claimed that the two militants arrested by UP police named Sajad as one of the key operative of HUJI, who was providing arms and ammunition. Sajad, who is said to be a student of Darulaloom Deoband had gone to his native village, when he was arrested by the police.
It was reliably learnt that soon after his arrest, police sent his pictures through email to the UP STF, investigating the case and the suspect was identified by the his two associates in UP.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police claimed to have arrested two suspected militants of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI) who they believe were behind the November 23 serial blasts in the court premises of Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad.
Police said Mohammed Tariq (30) and Khalid Mujahid (24) were arrested when they were going to deliver 1.25 kg of RDX, six detonators and ammonium nitrate rods to an accomplice for making bombs, police said adding the explosive was provided to the duo by Sajad.
UP police deputed a special team to Jammu, which arrived here on Sunday evening, sources said adding that Sajad was also brought to Jammu by Kishtwar police and handed over to UP police today. The accused was being taken to Uttar Pradesh for his interrogation as case against him was registered in UP, sources added.
