| Rampura simmering, CM lend ear | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Dec 24 Towards the tale end of winter capital city's most plush locality Gandhi Nagar, there is a simmering discontent among the residents following an eviction notice from the government. A relatively modest area, Ram Pura and Nai Basti localities have a history older than that of Gandhi Nagar which today presents urban elite face of the modern Jammu. While Gandhi Nagar is prospering, these localities built around a filthy nallah are on the fringes of a risk of eviction.
the residents of Nai Basti, Hajipur and Rampur towards Satwari chowk living along the two banks of a Nallah have been served with notices of eviction. The residents have been living on the site since 60 years and have constructed own residential houses and shops. They plea is that being poor people they are not in a position to pay the value of the land. They have demanded that their case may be considered under the Roshni Act as they are ready to deposit the amount under the Act. In this connection a deputation of the inhabitants lead by the local MLA Raman Bhalla and also accompanied by MLA Shanti Devi, who is resident of this area, today called on the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and apprised him of their problems. The deputation of residents apprised him about their problems, seeking his intervention to address these. The Chief Minister, according to an official spokesman, listened to the deputation with rapt attention and asked the Revenue Secretary to go through the relevant documents and discuss the course of action to be taken in the matter. Meanwhile, Bhalla also apprised the Chief Minister about traffic congestion in his constituency and demanded early construction of a flyover between Bikram Chowk to Convent Crossing so that the traffic problem is resolved. He said the construction of the flyover is already approved and asked for immediate start of the project. He highlighted the need for improvement of internal roads in Jammu city and up-gradation of the stretch of the National Highway from Satwari to Kunjwani for smooth flow of traffic. He also projected demands of Gorkha and Valmiki communities and development issues in refugee basties at Gadigarh and Bhour Camp. |
