| Jammu deserves kudos for rejecting venomous ideology of Geelani | | | Early Times Special Correspondent

The traditionally secular, patriotic and nationalists to the core of their hearts, the people of Jammu region, irrespective of their religion, caste, creed and sub region to which they belong, have totally rejected the divisive, communal, fundamentalist, religious extremist and anti national agenda and politics of religious bigots, narrow minded parochial politicians like Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani and those of his likes. Knowing well the disruptive, Islamic fundamentalist Kashmiri parochial and communal mindset of Tehrake Hurriyat leader Ali Shah Geelani, the Jammu people have spurned all his overtures. So much so that they would not like to be in any way associated with any sugar coated venomous propaganda propounded by Geelani.
In this context lamentation by Geelani that people of Jammu have not responded to the invitations sent by him for the Eid party hosted by him at Jammu, has an element of irony. How a leader who stands for secession of a part of country viz Kashmir from India, on the only ground of it having overwhelming Muslim majority, thus advocating two nations theory, which the people of Jammu along with majority of Indians have long ago rejected and who betrays his communal mindset in all his utterances and actions can expect the nationalist and secular people of Jammu to positively respond to his invitation, even if it is extended on the sacred occasion of Eid. Geelani had sent invitations to over hundred and fifty distinguished citizens from all the communities for Eid Milan at his Jammu residence. But as could be expected hardly 20% of them turned up, which included only two prominent persons.
The conclusion drawn by Geelani or his pretension that, "The civil society in Jammu does not seem to be interested in the resolution of Kashmir issue. There was very less response in this direction", is totally unjustified and unfounded. As far people of Jammu, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians are concerned the only Kashmir issue rather Jammu and Kashmir issue is the vacation of forcible and illegal occupation by Pakistan through naked aggression, for last 60 years, of a part of state territory, keeping its people as hostage. Besides the other issue which deeply concerns the people of Jammu is the perpetual domination and hegemony of Kashmiri political leadership over them, denying them their due share in power structure in the state as well as in the field of development and discrimination against them in all the fields, right from 1947 onward. Yet another issue which concerns them most at present is the absence of peace in this part of the country, which was known for peaceful co existence by members of all the communities and which has been vitiated by the terrorists patronized and even provided all encouragement, moral and even material support by anti national over ground politicians like Geelani.
Earlier Geelani had lamented over denial to him by the Imam of Jamia Masjid Talab Khatikan Jammu, to avail of the religious gathering in the mosque, to spread his venomous anti India, divisive and communal propaganda. The Imam along with his supporters and Muslims of Jammu at large deserve applause for giving snub to Geelani by not allowing him to address the religious gathering and thus convert the sacred and religious occasion and place for propagating his political ideology of hatred and communal divide.
The mature and sagacious people of Jammu are highly liberal and tolerant to divergent view points and fully believe in exchange of ideas and opinions. But the same must be within limits and parameters guided by the national interest and the interest of the unity of the people and prevailing of peace. Of course, they have no tolerance and patience to give ears to the out and out anti national, disruptive and venomous divisive ideas and ideology advocated by any person, how much the same may be sugar coated. Knowing well the real character, motivations and machinations of politicians like Geelani, the people of Jammu are not fools, to be taken in by the oily tongue of Geelani and those of his like, who have waged a war on all the noble principles for which the Jammuites stand. There may be few exceptions of pretenders of being ultra liberal, but in a reality sycophants. |
