Jammu | Dec 26
Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said that holding elections in Kashmir will not lead to resolution of the Kashmir issue.
“The Government of India is busy conducting polls since 1952 in Kashmir but the resolution of Kashmir issue is still hanging in balance, Geelani told mediamen addressing a press conference here in
Abbas Manzil.
On the occasion he also reiterated his demand of giving Kashmiris a right to self-determination.
He said the Kashmir issue can be resolved only through granting the right to self determination under the United Nations resolution on Kashmir. He said the decision taken by the people of Kashmir should be acceptable to all the parties. “If they (Kashmiris) are willing to stay with India, Pakistan or remain independent it should be respected Geelani told reporters.
Commenting on the ongoing talks between India and Pakistan Geelani said they have been cooking something fresh but any decision taken by them ignoring people of Jammu and Kashmir and their freedom struggle would be not acceptable to us.
The firebrand leader also described Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's four point formula solution for resolution of Kashmir as half hearted approach.
He said all kind of talks are meaningless till India does not accept the disputed nature of Kashmir issue.
Geelani alleged that India wants to solve Kashmir issue with power. "On the basis of power, India can not suppress the freedom struggle," he added.
Referring to revocation of Armed forces special powers Act and withdrawal of troops from the Kashmir valley,Geelani said ,”No talks can succeed till the draconian laws continue there and political prisoners not released”.
Geelani said that India is not serious about the talks, "thousands of youths are being arrested and latter they miss in custody, property worth crore of rupees is being razed to ground," Geelani said referring to recent skirmishes between local youth and police force leading to death of youth in Magam.
