Jammu | Dec 26
Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari, MLA Surankote and seniot Natonal Conference alongwith people of Surankote staged a protest Dharna outside the Raj Bhawan, Jammu demanding opening of Degree College at Surankote.
Terming the move of the coalition government as biased, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari while addressing the Protest Dharna said a sense of d iscontent has rumbled among the people of Surankote for taking this "political motivated" decision of giving nod for of opening 18 new Degree Colleges without applying any mind and following any criterion. "The distribution of colleges were done on the personal liking and disliking of their own party MLAs, and genuine claim of people of Surankote was set aside and was ignored on party basis, he alleged.
Amid shouting of slogans against the coalition government for adopting discriminatory attitude towards the people of Surankote, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari said " It is not the question of politics. The issue is directly linked to the future of the students of the Surankote, who have been deprived of College education by the present coalition government. The people of Surankote will not allow the present government to play politics with the students.
It is unfortunate that the government is playing politics with the career of the student community and is obliging their party men by setting aside the pressing genuine demand of the people for opening Degree College at Surankote which he said had already stands approved by the erstwhile National Conference government in a cabinet-cum-district development board meeting of Poonch district in 2001 but the people of the area have been discriminated by the coalition government which has "politicised" the opening of the colleges in the state, he alleged.
He said that there is no question of tolerating this betrayal move of the government and National Conference will agitate against this biased move of the coalition partners and will launch mass protest against this injustice.
Provincial President J&K National Conference, Jammu Province, Ajay Sadhotra, M.R. Qureshi, MLC, who also participated in the Dharna besides other party leaders echoed same views and threatened to intensify the protest against the coalition government if the demand of opening of Degree College at Surankote is not conceded to.
Among others who addressed the Dharna included Gurdeep Singh Sassan, Chander Mohan Sharma, District President, Jammu URBAN, Th. Kashmira Singh, MLC, Jugal Mahajan, Shyam Mehra, Shrikant, Haji Ghulam Mohd, Joginder Singh Manhas, S. Sucha Singh, Ashwani Charak, Randhir Singh Slathia , Mohd Aslam Lohli, Anil Kohli, Anil Sharma, Rajiv Gupta and others.
